The Alex Mobile Health Program

CANADA - The Alex Mobile Health Program is a service provided by The Alex, a not-for-profit community health organization in Calgary, Alberta. They operate three mobile health units: a Community Health Bus, a Youth Health Bus, and a Dental Health Bus. Each unit is staffed by a team of professionals that visit a number of sites across the city on a weekly basis to provide free medical, dental, and supportive services. The following video features the Youth Health Bus during a visit to a local school.

Mission of Mercy Mobile Health Clinic

PENNSYLVANIA - The Mission of Mercy Mobile Health Clinic provides free healthcare, free dental care and free prescription medications to the uninsured, underinsured, and the homeless. This faith-based non-profit organization operates in Arizona, Texas, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. The following video features the mobile clinic on location in Harrisburg, PA where the mobile unit has had to change locations because of recent shootings in the area. By quickly re-locating to a nearby church parking lot, the clinic was able to continue serving the needs of the community.

Home Sweet Home Ministries Mobile Health Project

ILLINOIS - The Home Sweet Home Ministries Mobile Health Project is a community service of Home Sweet Home Ministries (HSHM) in partnership with the Community Health Care Clinic and McLean County Health Department. It provides a variety of free healthcare and wellness services to low income people in Bloomington. It is part of the ministry's overall goal of providing "food, shelter and hope to the hungry, homeless and hurting". The following video features the mobile unit on location at one of the HSHM Mission Mart locations.

Miami University Mobile Health Unit

OHIO - The Miami University Mobile Health Unit is the centre piece of an innovative project aimed at promoting health awareness and disease prevention among students on college campuses  across the United States. The health unit also provides clinic services such as influenza vaccinations, HIV antibody testing and counseling, and blood glucose screening. As well, the program included the development of resource materials, and the training and hiring of peer educators. The project was made possible thanks to funding from The Ford Foundation and through a partnership with Armor Mobile Systems, an Ohio mobile unit manufacturer. The following video features Project Director, Dr. Reginald Fennell of Miami University with the mobile health unit during a regional tour of colleges and universities in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana.

Western Cape Wellness Mobile Clinics

SOUTH AFRICA - The Western Cape Wellness Mobile Clinic is an initiative of The Health Foundation - Western Cape and the Western Cape Government which brings much needed medical and health services to school-aged children in underserved areas of the Western Cape. They currently operate 5 state-of-the-art mobile health clinics which provide primary health care, optometry, dentistry screenings and health education to over 200,000 Grade R and 1 learners throughout the region. The Foundation's aim is to have a total of 13 mobile units, so that they can reach each child every year.

Van of Hope

ARIZONA - The Van of Hope is a mobile medical service operated by the Carondelet Health Network of Tucson, Arizona. The program which involves a number of community partners is aimed at serving the primary medical needs of Southern Arizona's nearly 6000 homeless, of which 40% are children. The 38-foot recreational vehicle has been modified and equipped to provide these services, including the latest GlobalMed Telemedicine technology to bring healthcare to those in Tucson who have no health insurance, regular doctor, or available transportation.

Nayati Mobile Medical Unit Initiative

INDIA - Each year, hundreds of thousands of religious pilgrims visit the shrine at Badrinath, India, a Hindu holy town close to the Indo-China (Tibetan) border. The Nayati Charitable Trust has used this influx of people as a base point for their Mobile Medical Unit Initiative in that region. A team of 30 medical professionals provide health and medical care using 6 fully equipped mobile medical units. The program was started in May, 2012. In the first month of operation the medical team saw over 20,000 patients. Healthcare and Medical Services are one of Nayati's four 'pillars of stability' along with Shelter and Sanitation, Nutrition and Hygiene, and Education and Personal Development.

Pinellas County Mobile Medical Unit

FLORIDA - The downturn in the economy, coupled with Florida's mild climate has meant that areas such as Pinellas County, Florida have experienced a spike in it's homeless population. This inturn puts enormous pressure on local tax-payer funded medical falilities and programs that are already feeling the effects of budget cutbacks. The Pinellas County Mobile Medical Unit is part of a strategy to reach out to this population to address medical needs before their health concerns become an emergency. The mobile unit travels to over a dozen locations to connect with as many of the uninsured homeless as possible.

Ocean Health Initiative Mobile Medical Unit

NEW JERSEY - The Ocean Health Initiative (OHI) is a non-profit federally qualified community health center based in Ocean County, New Jersey. One of the many services and programs that OHI provides is a Mobile Medical Unit. This 40-foot-long modified Winnebago has two medical/dental exam rooms and is wheelchair accessible. The Mobile Medical Unit is part of OHI's outreach to those in the community who may not otherwise have access to health care.

Catholic Charities Resource Bus

KANSAS - The Catholic Charities Resource Bus is a mobile outreach initiative of the Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas that was made possible through a donation from Atmos Energy of Dallas, Texas. The Resource Bus brings needed services to people and communities that find transportation a barrier to accessing them. In this case, the wheelchair accessible mobile unit provides access to basic social services over a 21 county area of Northeastern Kansas. The unit is staffed with case managers that can help with such things as emergency food assistance and referrals to other social programs. The long range goal is to help families that are in poverty or in a state of crisis and bring them into a more stable and self-sustaining situation. Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas is a non-profit agency that was founded in 1956. Today it assists over 85,000 people of all faiths through projects such as the Resource Bus.
